Gerald “Gil” Koch Endowed Passion Funds

Mr. Koch, was an elderly gentlemen experiencing some health issues and considering his wishes for his estate plan. Gil and his wife, Kay, had been passionate about charitable causes for many years. Their son, was challenged by disability and enjoyed over 30 years of wonderful care provided by a local nonprofit agency, The Arc of Volusia. Kay and their daughter had previously worked to women and children in difficult family situations. They came to know and support another local nonprofit, The Beacon Center, which serves the needs of women and children.

Mr. Koch’s charitable goals included providing support for The Arc of Volusia and The Beacon Center through increased giving for the remainder of his life and continued support after his passing. The local estate planning attorney suggested an introduction to the Community Foundation to learn about possible solutions to meet his charitable goals. Through collaboration with the attorney, accountant and the Community Foundation Mr. Koch was able to ensure his charitable passions and goals were to be met including:

Increasing his annual lifetime gifts using his IRA account and decrease his income tax.

Forever provide the same amount of annual support to the causes he cared most about and save his family taxes.

Mr. Koch passed away in 2021. In 2022 the Gilbert Koch Endowed Fund for the Beacon Center and the Gilbert Koch Endowed Fund for the ARC of Volusia granted their first annual distributions to Mr. Koch’s favorite charities for the loving legacy of support they need to serve our community’s families in perpetuity.

Additionally, following Mr. Koch’s death, a Community Foundation donor read about Mr. Koch’s endowed fund established for the Beacon Center on the Community Foundation website, and from their own Community Foundation Donor Advised Fund, made a gift to increase Mr. Koch’s fund and its benefit to the Beacon Center.
